The Enterprise Zone is a geographical area designated by the State as being
eligible for State Income Tax credits and other financial incentives. These
benefits are only available to companies within the Zone and are offered to
encourage business growth and job creation. This innovative partnership
between State, local government and private business is very successful,
saving millions each year for businesses within the Zone's boundaries.

Is your business in the Zone?

The Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone includes the non-residential areas of
Thousand Palms, Indio, Coachella, Thermal and Mecca. If you are not sure if
you are in the Zone, please call the Zone office at 760-391-5176 or
800-551-1111 with your address. They can tell you if you are eligible for
the Zone's many benefits.

What are the major benefits?

  • A State Income Tax credit of over $32,000 to the employer for each
    qualified employee
  • State Income Tax credits for Sales or Use Taxes on up to $20 million in
    purchases of qualified new equipment each year
  • Lender interest income deductions for loans made to Zone businesses
  • Preference Points on bids for State contracts

The Empowerment Zone is a federally mandated area of 4,200 square miles in
Eastern Riverside County. The programs of the Empowerment Zone are meant to
help improve the quality of life for residents and businesses within the
one. The Empowerment Zone covers certain commercial and residential parts of
Cochella. Benefits to employers include a Federal Income Tax Credit of up to
$3,000 per qualified employee. To find out if your business qualifies,

The Inland Empire Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is the region¹s
premier provider of business consulting and training services for the
existing and aspiring business owner. The SBDC delivers quality consulting,
instructive and relevant training and complete resources to over 5,000
business prospects every year. The SBDC mission is to help you build a
better business.

With a staff of 15 dedicated people, SBDC has four full-time offices and 7
outreach locations that allow for easy access to our services. We offer over
240 training workshops to ensure that important business topics are
addressed.  As a federally sponsored program with local cash match
partnerships, the SBDC is able to provide its services at little or no cost.
